About

High Power Certifications

Amateur rocketry requires certifications in order to launch the biggest rocket motors. Not only do these certifications prove yourself as a capable rocketeer, but provide fun projects to help develop engineering skills such as CAD, technical writing, and composites manufacturing.

Level 3 Certification

Kronos

A Level 3 certification is the last and most difficult certification to do, and allows the flyer to use the largest commercial solid rocket motors on the market. Only 7% of registered flyers have this level of certification. A Level 3 certification requires mentorship, rigorous documentation, detailed procedures, and the highest level of rocket knowledge and safety. Kronos is the embodiment of my rocketry skills with dual deployment, electronics, GPS, aesthetic composites manufacturing, and technical writing. It stands at 10ft tall, 6in diameter, weighs 40lbs, and flew on an M1297 Aerotech rocket motor.

Scaled Level 3 Test Flight

Krypton

This 7ft tall rocket is a 2/3rd scale model of my Level 3 certification design. I call it my Level 2.5 because it helped prepare me for my Level 3 certification. This was critical in learning more advanced rocketry techniques like dual deployment parachutes and electronics. This also helped prove the design and manufacturing process. It was an incredible opportunity to fly a rocket at the beautiful Bonneville Salt Flats during LDRS 39, the largest high power rocket launch in the US.

Level 1 & Level 2 Certification

Magma Meteor

This 4ft tall rocket is designed for both a Level 1 and Level 2 certification flight. I was able to complete both flights on the same day after waiting for a year during COVID-19 to fly it. A successful Level 1 flight requires the flyer to use a Level 1 rocket motor and recover the rocket without damage. Similarly, the Level 2 certification requires a test on FAA regulations and procedures before a successful flight.
